COVID-19 Illness Reporting Procedures

Information for Students, Faculty and Staff

The information below provides the steps that RDC students, faculty and staff should take if they become ill. This applies to those who are on-campus, and those who are learning and working remotely.

Before Coming to RDC’s Campus 

  • If you are ill, stay home. We each have a very important responsibility not to spread COVID-19, and everyone should stay home if they are ill. 
  • If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then contact Alberta Health Link at 811.

Students On-Campus for Shops, Labs, Athletics Training or Studying at the Library 

When you are not at RDC:

  • If you become ill when you are not at RDC, do not come to campus for your next scheduled shop, lab, practice or study appointment. 
  • Contact your instructor or coach to let them know you are ill. 
  • Your instructor or coach will gather some information from you, and then they will submit a student illness report to RDC’s Health Safety and Wellness. You can find this form on the homepage of TheLoop, under the COVID-19 heading, to see the information that will be collected. 
  • If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then contact Alberta Health Link at 811. 
  • You should discuss any upcoming exams or assignments with your instructor. Please see the FAQs for Exams, Illness Reporting and Course Completion for final exams or other questions you might have. 

When you are at RDC:

  • If you become ill when you are at RDC, please let your instructor, coach or Library staff know immediately. 
  • Your instructor, coach or Library staff member will follow the steps in the What a RDC Employee Should Do if Someone Has COVID-19 Symptoms document.  
  • Please follow their advice for immediate actions. 
  • If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then contact Alberta Health Link at 811. 
  • You should discuss any upcoming exams or assignments with your instructor. Please see the FAQs for Exams, Illness Reporting and Course Completion for final exams or other questions you might have. 

Students Taking Online Classes 

  • If you become ill with COVID-19, please let your instructor know. 
  • If you have been to campus at all in the last two weeks, let your instructor know. They will then follow any steps for COVID-19 reporting, as determined by RDC’s Health, Safety and Wellness Centre. 
  • You should discuss any upcoming exams or assignments with your instructor. Please see the FAQs for Exams, Illness Reporting and Course Completion for final exams or other questions you might have. 

Faculty and Staff 

  • Details and processes for supervisors, faculty and staff are available under the Human Resources tab on TheLoop. The steps below provide a quick summary for your reference. 
  • If you become ill, contact your supervisor to let them know. 
  • Your supervisor will gather some information from you, and then they will submit an employee illness report to RDC’s Health Safety and Wellness. You can find this form on the homepage of TheLoop, under the COVID-19 heading, to see the information that will be collected. 
  • If you are not at RDC, do not come to campus. 
  • If you are at RDC, please let your supervisor know immediately. They will then follow the steps in the What a RDC Employee Should Do if Someone Has COVID-19 Symptoms document. 
  • If you work remotely, let your supervisor know you are ill, indicating if you have been on campus within the last two weeks. 
  • If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then contact Alberta Health Link at 811.
