Campus Life this Fall

We know that things will be different at Red Deer College this fall, but whether you’re studying, working or living at RDC, know that you’re not alone. The information below provides links and information about what’s happening at RDC this fall.

Coming to Campus

Can I come to campus this fall?

Red Deer College’s campus is open, but it’s important to note that access will be limited, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While the majority of our classes will take place online, there will be some on-campus shops and labs where it is deemed essential to support student learning. There will also be opportunities to study on campus, such as booking a study space in the Library. Plus, fitness and wellness services have also reopened at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre on main campus.

If I do come to campus, will I have to take extra precautions?

Yes. Guided by Alberta Health Protocols, RDC has developed our own guidelines to help protect everyone who comes to campus from exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Complete details are available at Coming to Campus this Fall

Residence

Is Residence open even though courses are online?

Yes. Residence is open and still accepting students to live here this Fall and Winter. Residence has implemented a series of precautions following provincial guidance to help create a safe community within Residence and on campus. For more information contact Residence by email or phone at 403.342.3257.

Can I move in at any time this Fall?

If you want to live in Residence this Fall let us know! We can help create a move-in time and date that will suit your individual needs throughout the term. Requests to move-in this Fall will be based on availability.

Will there be in-person programming and events like previous years?

At this time, Residence programming and events will take place virtually. We know this is a big change to what you might be used to in Residence, but we remain committed to help create a safe, and fun experience this Fall while you reside on campus.

When will the COVID-19 precautions change to allow guests, or social gatherings?

We are constantly evaluating our COVID-19 precautions to help create a safe environment and help to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19 on campus and in Residence. We will notify our students in Residence if changes can be made to ease precautions or, if warranted, we add new precautions for the health and safety of our community.

Parking and Transit

Do I have to pay for parking?

Parking is complimentary for students, faculty, staff and guests for Fall Term, and Residence parking fees are also waived. While there will be limited numbers of people on campus this fall, we will strive to coordinate the movement of people by requesting they park and enter through the door closest to their destination within the buildings. Please see the parking map that shows parking lots and entrances.

Entrances will be open during specific times:

  • Main Entrance: open 24 hours/day, seven days/week
  • Four Centres Entrance (starting August 31): 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday

Student Services

Are Student Services available?

The Students’ Association also offers a variety of services including a used bookstore, health and dental plans, food bank, and on-campus food and beverage service through the Far Side Bar and Grill.
