Description of Position / skills Required

The position:

  • Is for 16 weeks.
  • Begins May 11, 2020 and ends August 30, 2020.
  • The wage is $16/hour for a 37.5-hour work week.
  • The museum is open 7 days a week


Application deadline: Friday March 27, 2020.

The Interpreter will primarily focus on helping the Museum Manager run the day-to-day operations in a small rural museum –opening & closing procedures), Communication (social media and promotional outreach), Education (programs, group tours, FAM tours) and Events. The Interpreter will also help with special days, site maintenance, and assist with some Collections Care and maintenance in the cleaning of the museum and the objects on display. The job is multi-faceted and includes public speaking, much public interaction, research, organization, documentation, information management as well as some yard work.


The ideal candidate should:

  • • Be a student in a degree or diploma program concerned with Museum Studies, History, Education, Tourism or a similar discipline.
  • • Be familiar with interpretation, education, and / or guiding tours.
  • • Have experience with Word, Excel, various social media platforms and databases.
  • • Possess strong organizational skills
  • • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • • Be fluent in English.

• The position is open to all equity groups.

• The job has various roles that require long periods of sitting or standing, walking reasonable distances, some lifting and carrying, some outdoor work

• Some events and tours take place outdoors

• This position is supported by Young Canada Works. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada, be enrolled as a full-time student prior to the position and immediately after the position, be between the ages of 16 and 30, not have another full-time job, be willing to commit to the full duration of the 16-week project, and be willing to participate in an evaluation/assessment.
