You will join one of our operating teams who will teach you how to safely monitor all processes and equipment within the area you are assigned. With the mentorship of qualified team members you will gain valuable knowledge of working in a dynamic oil and gas environment.

You will use your expertise to:

• Monitor all processes and equipment in assigned unit area
• Perform routine operating tasks (i.e. monitor levels, temperatures, pressures, etc.)
• Monitor operating area for abnormal conditions (i.e. mechanical or process related)
• Perform basic troubleshooting with creative solutions
• Perform product sampling as required
• Assist in preparation of equipment for maintenance
• Perform housekeeping duties, operational maintenance as assigned
• Provide summer relief for full-time process operators
• Assist field personnel in responding to unit upset conditions ensuring that established procedures are followed
• Log process changes and unit conditions in OLT (Operator Log Tool)

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

• You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way. The Edmonton Refinery is not accessible via public transportation, you must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation at time of interview.
• This is a four-month work term starting the end of April 2020 to the beginning of September.
• Some heavy lifting, use of ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers
• Able to perform work in a variety of different environments, both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
• No concerns with using a self-contained breathing apparatus

Certifications / Qualifications / Education

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

• First or second year Aboriginal students who are enrolled in a Power Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Oil and Gas Production Operator or industry related program at an accredited post-secondary institution
• Must be returning to full-time studies in the fall
• Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

• Oil and gas experience and previous safety training is preferred but not required
• Have mechanical aptitude and skills to allow hands-on operation of plant equipment (i.e. pumps, compressors, heaters, etc.)
• Ability to work and communicate in a team environment
