Description of Position / skills Required

Northern Industrial Insulation Contractors Inc., a subsidiary of Stuart Olson Inc., is one of Western Canada’s largest open-shop industrial insulation contracting specialists. Our goal is to provide customers with quality products and guaranteed service.


Our team is seeking experienced Industrial Apprentice Insulators with a minimum of 6 months industrial insulation experience for a client in the Red Deer area.



Working Conditions

  • Work both indoors and outdoors in a live operating plant
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Must be able to drive every day to site (no camp available)
  • Mon – Thurs 10 hour days, with opportunity of extended hours into shutdown






  • Demonstrate the Stuart Olson Promise and contribute to it becoming embedded across the organization.



  • Removal of insulation in preparation for turnarounds, including a large amount of cold service foam glass insulation.
  • Removal of insulation and re-insulation of cold / hot service equipment and personal protection insulation prior to start-up. Post start up work will include re-insulation of all in scope equipment.
  • Removal of insulation and cladding from ducting / installation of insulation and cladding on duct work.
  • Field fabrication of fittings as required (i.e. gores, end caps, bevels and tees).

  • Participate in corporate initiatives.
Certifications / Qualifications / Education


  • 6+ months industrial insulation experience
  • Maintenance experience
  • Read and understand drawings an asset
  • Cold storage application an asset
  • Drug and Alcohol testing required 
  • CSTS Version 0.9
  • Valid government issued  Photo ID
  • Fall Protection
  • AWP an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Committed dedication to safety; reflected in practice and experience

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50lbs.; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50lbs. with assistance
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects
  • Work at great heights
  • Work in tight areas
