Finesse your skills while developing lasting friendships.
RDC Royals is a competitive sports program at the College that allows students to compete in leagues outside of those in which the RDC's Athletics teams compete. RDC Royals is an organized experience that gives students an opportunity to compete in a sport that they love while developing and building friendships as they proudly represent the College.
RDC Royals teams are funded through student-athletes paying for their participation, as well as other team-based fundraising initiatives. After team selections take place, RDC Royals operates in a 'pay to play' manner, in the same way as many other high-performance club sports.
These sports typically run from September to April:
RDC is excited to explore the potential of a baseball team that would be part of the Royals competitive sports programming. In November 2019, an Expression of Interest letter was presented to the Canadian College Baseball Conference. The league provided their unanimous approval for RDC to move forward with a formal proposal and application process, which would be presented by RDC to the league in May 2020. If the proposal for a new team is accepted, RDC student-athletes would begin competing as early as fall 2020.

The RDC Royals Dance Team competes in three competitions in March and April:
- Great Canadian Dance Challenge (Showtime Dance Productions), Fort Saskatchewan
- Standing Ovation Dance Festival, Red Deer (Hosted at RDC or Fort Saskatchewan)
- Danceworks, Central Alberta Dance Festival (Hosted at RDC)
In addition to the three completions, the RDC Royals Dance performs at Red Deer College's Kings and Queens home basketball games and as extras in productions through the School of Creative Arts. Plenty of opportunities for our dance teams exist on our campuses, including involvement in flash mobs and other activities that require an element of flair.
There are two, two-hour practices per week (Tuesday/Thursday) plus a stretch/strength session (Tuesday).
The Red Deer College Rodeo Team competes in the College rodeo circuit within the Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (CIRA). The Rodeo Team has been active for the past five years, and our competitors have reached the CIRA finals every year.
Students competing in timed events have access to off-campus facilities in a heated indoor arena, as well as coaching for these events. Students competing in rough stock events have stock supplied for a small fee per year. Rough stock practices are organized through Olds College.
Sportsmanship and commitment are two essential qualities on the Rodeo Team. With a strong emphasis on the team environment, students work together to help each other in practices and at rodeos throughout the year.
Red Deer College Rodeo Team apparel will be provided to registered members to wear during competitions.
Our rowing program, RDC collaborates with Central Alberta Rowing Club to compete at the College & University level. This program, while new, is a competitive and fun sport for those wanting to compete at the collegiate level.
