Humanities and Social Sciences

  • Sociologists C.Chai and K.Robson have just completed a three year collaborative, community-based project with the Central Alberta Immigrant Women’s Association in Red Deer, and which aimed to develop a local plan to address issues surrounding the economic security of Immigrant Women in the region.   Through Community Service Learning projects, Independent Studies and one Honours Thesis provided crucial documentation and analysis of the extent and nature of barriers faced – and the resiliency exhibited  - by Immigrant Women in the community.  

  • Psychologist Elena Antoniadis is performing research on concussions, including understanding concussion effects, identifying concussion signs and symptoms, and helping injured athletes heal and return to play.  Her research is in cooperation with the Alberta Sports Connection and Alberta Sport Development Centre Central.

Social Work

  • Social Work Faculty at Red Deer College are members of the Canadian Association of Social Work/Service Diploma Programs and are actively involved in the planning of the organizations national conference in Perth, Ontario on June 8-10, 2015.
