Congratulations to RDC’s Class of 2020!

On this historic year, 1,654 students graduated from Red Deer College. Our College’s 56th ConvoConvocation 2020cation is memorable for many reasons, but nothing can take away from the importance of Convocation or the milestone achievement that it signifies for each of you, our graduating class of 2020.

Check out the Convocation 2020 program to find your name and see your place in RDC’s history.

We are very pleased to announce three award recipients as part of Convocation 2020. Two outstanding students are being recognized for their exceptional contributions to academics and to the community. Megan Nikula received the Governor General’s Academic Medal (Collegiate Bronze Level) for her academic excellence. Megan graduated with a Kinesiology and Sport Studies Diploma, and she earned a GPA of 4.0 and five grades of A+ in the final year of her program.

Brittany Lausen received the Red Deer College Foundation Outstanding Student Award for her leadership and commitment to RDC. Brittany has demonstrated extensive contributions as a student leader, serving as the President of the Students’ Association and being an integral part of a wide variety of initiatives for students across the College.

RDC continued another important tradition this year, with the granting of an Honorary Degree to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of social, cultural or economic development in a way that has had significant impact on RDC, central Alberta and beyond. Dorothy Dickson is the sixth recipient of the Honorary Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree in recognition of her unparalleled passion for environmental initiatives, education and community building.

Congratulations to all of our graduates from the class of 2020! We look forward to celebrating in person with you next June.

Background: Postponement of Convocation 2020

After much consideration, Red Deer College announced on April 2 that we would postpone our Convocation Ceremonies that were scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2020.

This decision was not made lightly, as Convocation is a wonderful time of celebration for students and their families, as well as faculty, staff and community members.

RDC chose to postpone Convocation 2020 due to the unprecedented situation with COVID-19. In alignment with Alberta Health directives, the health and safety of everyone on our campuses is our highest priority. We are very sorry to postpone this day of celebration, and we appreciate the understanding of our students and their families, as well as guests and employees.
