Admission, Registration and Information Services 

Update June 30, 2020

CHANGE OF HOURS FOR FRONTLINE RECEPTION SERVICES

The hours of frontline reception service provided by Admission, Registration and Information services (OR), Cashier’s Office and the Student Connect Centre (SCC), are changing effective July 13, 2020. Reception Services (telephone and front counter) will open at 10:00 am and close at 3:00 pm Monday to Friday. Telephone callers can still contact staff and departments if they dial direct or use the dial-by-name calling feature when the phone is set to after-hours mode.

2020-21 Timetable

Please be advised that there will be a delay in the publication of the 2020-21 timetable for continuing and new students. This will result in a more accurate timetable and improved registration experience for all students. The new dates are as follows:

  • Publication of Timetable – May 26, 2020
  • Continuing Student Registration – June 9, 2020
  • New Student Registration – June 23, 2020

The Office of the Registrar notified students of this change on Friday, April 17 through TheLoop.

Campus Store and The Pulse

Update May 19, 2020:

You may purchase course materials and other merchandise for the Spring and Summer 2020 semesters from the Campus Store and The Pulse by visiting rdc.ab.ca/campusstore. Purchases over $100 will be shipped for free to the mailing address you provide in your online order.

Course materials and supplies for Fall 2020 Term will be available for purchase closer to the beginning of September. Visit rdc.ab.ca/campusstore for those online purchases.

RDC's Child Care Centre is currently closed, until further notice, in accordance with Alberta Health Services and Alberta Government directives. We look forward to welcoming back the children we care for each day, when it is safe to do so.

Donald School of Business

Updates April 7, 2020:

RDC’s downtown campus, home of the Donald School of Business will be open April 8 and 9 to allow faculty and staff to remove any personal items and materials they need to work from home 

Effective Monday, April 13, RDC’s Donald School of Business will temporarily close, until further notice. No public access will be accommodated, and all instructors and staff will be working from home and responding virtually to student or other inquiries. 

Previous Updates:

Effective Monday, March 23, RDC’s Donald School of Business (located in the Millennium Centre downtown) will be open from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on weekdays. Please note that this is a temporary reduction in hours, until further notice. Certain classrooms, most computer labs and other spaces within this School will be temporarily closed to alleviate repeatedly cleaning those spaces. Common areas, faculty and staff offices and washrooms will continue to receive regular cleaning.

Flexible Learning

Food Services

Please note the following details regarding food services on RDC’s main campus. These changes are in place until further notice:

  • Tim Hortons in the Red Deer Bottling Forum will be closed
  • Food services in The Marketplace are currently closed 
  • Food services in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre are closed 
  • All RDC catering through Chartwells will stop, for meetings or otherwise, until further notice
  • The FarSide Bar & Grill and The Lift (operated by RDC’s Students’ Association) is closed effective immediately, until further notice

These decisions will be reviewed and any updates to future service delivery will be shared as soon as possible.

Please note there will be no food and beverage service on main campus, other than vending machines. Anyone working or visiting main campus is asked to bring your own food and beverages.

Update July 6, 2020

Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Fitness & Wellness Facilities Re-Opening Plans

RDC continues to monitor and adapt our operations in response to COVID-19. In accordance with current Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Government of Alberta guidelines, we are pleased to announce the gradual re-opening of certain spaces within RDC’s Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.      

Here are the latest updates:

  • RDC’s Collicutt Performance Fitness Zone and Border Paving Running Track in the Centre will re-open starting July 20, 2020, with limited hours and capacity, and the health and safety of our clients and staff in mind
  • A maximum of 30 people will be allowed in the Collicutt Performance Fitness Zone at one time
  • High-intensity physical or cardio activity equipment (e.g. treadmills and elliptical machines) will be organized so that every third item can be used
    • Throughout July and August, the Collicutt Performance Fitness Zone and Border Paving Running Track will be open:
      • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays | 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
      • Tuesdays and Thursdays | 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
      • Saturdays | 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
    • Throughout July and August, the Border Paving Running Track will have the following times available specifically for runners:
      • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays | 8:00 am - 10:00 am
      • Tuesdays and Thursdays | 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
      • The middle lane of the track will be closed. The inside lane will be used for running, and the outside lane will remain open for passing
      • A maximum of four people will be permitted on the running track at one time, with walking allowed during non-designated running times
  • Larkaun Homes Squash Courts will remain closed for now  
  • Drop-in activities will not be available at this time

  • Fitness classes will resume in the fall. Further details will be available in the coming weeks  
  • Community change rooms will be closed until further notice, but washrooms will be open
  • The opening of other spaces within the Centre will be assessed on an ongoing basis, according to AHS guidelines

We look forward to welcoming fitness and wellness members back to our campus to enjoy these facilities. We encourage members to follow physical distancing measures, wash/sanitize their hands and remain at home if they are feeling ill. Update March 16, 2020

RDC is temporarily closing all of its sports and recreation facilities, including programming and associated bookings, as of noon on Monday, March 16.

The facilities and programming impacted by this include:

  • Collicutt Performance Fitness Zone
  • Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Arena
  • Fas Gas – On The Run Gymnasium
  • Border Paving Running Track
  • Larkaun Homes Squash Courts
  • All Fitness and Wellness Programming and Classes
  • Be Fit For Life Centre

The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre remains open, as do the other buildings on RDC’s campuses.

Please note: effective March 24, 2020, the Centre will be accessible from the north entrance only; all other exterior doors will be locked. Please see the Temporary Facility Closures section of the Novel Coronavirus FAQs for further details.

Health, Safety and Wellness Centre

Red Deer College students, faculty and staff are asked to contact the Health, Safety and Wellness Centre by email (Health [dot] Safety [at] rdc [dot] ab [dot] ca) if they suspect they have COVID-19 or if they have tested positive for the illness. 


IT Services

In-person and walk-in traffic at IT Services is closed at this time to encourage social distancing. 

IT Services team members remain available to assist students and employees, and remote support options are available. 

Individuals can call IT Services and arrange a time to drop-off a laptop or other College device for servicing.

Library

RDC’s Library is closed for in-person traffic until further notice. This decision will be reviewed and updates to future service delivery will be shared as soon as possible. 

Students who do not have access to a computer or laptop to complete course work can email their name, program, and contact information to rdclibrary [at] rdc [dot] ab [dot] ca. The Library has some laptops that can be signed out on a first-come first-served basis. Library staff will contact you to determine how best to meet your needs, whether you need a laptop for an hour, a day, or a week. We will be flexible with loan times, while striving to ensure equitable access to technology for all students. 

Disability Resources and Tutoring continues to be available through online service delivery.

Main Campus

Effective Monday, April 13, there will be no public access permitted on RDC's main campus. Any students, employees, visitors or guests must attend RDC’s main campus for business purposes and need to have pre-approved appointments to pick-up or receive goods or services to be on main campus.

Print Centre

Print Centre will only hold printed order for pick-up; deliveries to requesting departments at RDC are not occurring at this time.


Residence

Students living in Residence have received information from RDC to inform their decision-making. Below is a synopsis:

  • Students are permitted to stay in our Residences, if they wish
  • If students wish to move-out for home or other accommodations, the Residence Administration team is working with students to assist them
  • If students choose to vacate their Residence unit early, RDC has waived all early termination charges, and will be prorating Residence rate based upon move-out date
  • Public gathering spaces are closed, and all events have been cancelled to encourage social distancing
  • No visitors are being permitted to visit our Residences
  • Campus Security continues to be available 24/7

Students' Association of Red Deer College

Update June 30, 2020:

RDC's Students' Association office will be temporarily closed from July 13 to July 24.

Update June 2, 2020:

Students have until the end of June to clean out lockers of your personal contents. Then, return your locks to the Students' Association to receive your $10 refund. 

The Students' Association will be opened as identified below for the month of June, to help accommodate students arriving at RDC's main campus to clean out lockers:

Update April 8, 2020:

Student Lockers – Donald School of Business

Further to the April 7, 2020 update, due to the Donald School of Business temporary closure starting Monday, April 13, the Students’ Association staff have emptied all student lockers at the Donald School of Business. The SA team has ensured that items from each individual locker are separated and securely stored in individual bags, available for pick-up by April 30 at the Students’ Association office

  • If students are unable to physically come to campus to complete this task, please sardc-general [at] rdc [dot] ab [dot] ca (email )the Students’ Association to establish alternative arrangements
  • The SA is currently open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm 

Updates April 7, 2020:

Effective Monday, April 20, all student access to RDC’s main campus will stop, with the exception of students who are coming to clean out their lockers and/or access the Students’ Association (SA) Food Bank as noted below:

  • Students will be required to clean out their lockers by Thursday, April 30 and return locks to the SA. Updates March 27, 2020: 

Effective Monday, March 30, the Students’ Association (SA) hours will be adjusted:

  • Open 10:00 am - 3:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 
  • Closed on Mondays and Fridays

The SA, in partnership with local grocery stores, provides RDC students with a 10% discount on groceries at Sobeys Village Mall, 5% discount at Sobeys South and 5% discount at IGA Eastview. To receive these discounts, students should show their RDC  iCard at the grocery store check-out. 

  • Students may also apply to receive a food hamper by completing this Food Bank Application if they are experiencing financial shortfalls. To help the greatest number of students, hampers are limited to a maximum of one hamper per four-month term and a lifetime maximum of three hampers.

Students can access mental health resources, including an online mental health tool called mywellness.

Previous Update:

Looking to return your lock? Students can return locks to the Students’ Association office to receive the $10 refund. You have until June 30, 2020, to do this except in the 2400 hallway: this area is undergoing a renovation, so students who have lockers in this hallway are asked to return the locks by March 31, 2020.

Testing Services

RDC Students:

Update March 23, 2020: Effective immediately, all in-person testing in RDC’s Test Centre is cancelled until further notice. Test Centre staff will contact students and faculty who have exam bookings scheduled in Access+. If previously booked testing is impacted, Test Centre staff will assist individuals with setting up alternate arrangements to ensure testing is completed, and to ensure that students receive the accommodations they require.
