Backpacks to Briefcases

Backpacks to Briefcases, RDC’s annual professional development conference for students, is taking place on Thursday, September 27.

Through a full day of planned sessions on a variety of topics, students will have the opportunity to connect with, and learn from, each other, as well as community leaders, industry experts and RDC alumni.

Backpacks to Briefcases offers Red Deer College students learning opportunities in a conference setting, and is structured to mirror the types of conferences they may attend in their future careers. The annual professional development opportunity is available for all RDC students to attend.

Students participate in this conference by selecting breakout sessions that resonate with their personal and career goals. Session topics include: entrepreneurship, community engagement, employment standards, and financial awareness. Students will also learn how to sell themselves and their skillset during the hiring process, with industry experts sharing details about resume writing, interview skills, and networking.

RDC is pleased to welcome Todd Hirsch, ATB Financial's Chief Economist, as this year’s keynote speaker. He will share with RDC students inspiring stories and information gathered during his more than 20 year career in various organizations in Alberta. During his presentation, Hirsch will identify a variety of adaptive traits that can help individuals not only survive, but thrive, when unwanted change in their life and career occurs.

Todd Hirsch is the author of three books, and is a sought-after speaker who enjoys connecting with diverse audiences. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from the University of Alberta and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Calgary.
