Melcor Developments Ltd. Movement Studio

In a private celebration yesterday, Red Deer College acknowledged the support of longtime partner, Melcor Developments, Ltd. at an event in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

At the event, the Melcor Developments Ltd. Movement Studio was named in recognition of their support for the Shaping our Future campaign. This naming underscores Melcor’s commitment to education in a diverse range of programs and academic departments. The specially designed movement studio offers recreational athletes and learners in the Health Sciences and Kinesiology & Sports Studies programs a unique space in which to learn, practice and meditate.

Melcor’s Vice President, Red Deer region, and RDC alumnus, Guy Pelletier, has served in a number of volunteer roles at Red Deer College including the RDC Alumni Association board, RDC’s Board of Governors, and multiple fundraising campaign boards and advisory groups.

“Melcor Developments has had a very long relationship with Red Deer College, and we are very proud to have been able to support the construction of this amazing facility,” he says. “The Gary W Harris Canada Games Centre is transformational for RDC and the city of Red Deer. Melcor recognizes the critical importance of education along with health and wellness in helping our communities prosper, and we have invested in institutions around the province that are committed to delivering these services.”

For more than 25 years, Melcor Developments Ltd. has supported Red Deer College. Through an endowment which funds seven annual scholarships, and through contributions to development projects including the College’s newest facilities and the Four Centres building in 2009, Melcor’s financial support for RDC has empowered learners in a variety of programs.

“Melcor’s support for our College is a true partnership. As a significant employer in our region, and as an organization committed to supporting healthy communities, Melcor recognizes the value of Red Deer College to central Alberta,” says Joel Ward, RDC President & CEO. “Melcor believes in our capacity to train our region’s workforce and inspire the kind of community leadership that will contribute to growth and prosperity in central Alberta. We’re grateful to have had them as partners, and we look forward to continuing to work together as we transition into Red Deer University.”
