Part of a Greater Community

Laura Allard understands business. As a senior accountant with MNP in Red Deer, she’s part of the private enterprise team that works with a variety of clients from across central Alberta.
Before she started working in a career that she loves, Laura began her business education at RDC, and her step-by-step approach allowed her to earn three different accreditations. “Through RDC and the Donald School of Business, I completed a Management Certificate, then a Business Administration Diploma and finally my Bachelor of Business Administration Degree,” she explains.
For Laura, getting her degree was always the end goal, but she didn’t expect it would be possible in Red Deer. But then the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree through Mount Royal University became available at RDC. “I had lived in Calgary and Edmonton for several years, but Red Deer is home,” she says. “I grew up here and my family are in the community, so I was incredibly excited to be able to stay and get my degree here.”
In her final year, another important opportunity opened up for Laura when she started working part-time at MNP while finishing her courses. “It was really convenient because everything was downtown,” she says. “I was able to go to my classes at DSB and then walk to work.”
Now established in her career, Laura is still a part of the RDC community through her volunteerism with the Donald School of Business Advisory Council, which allows her to have a positive impact on the School and its students. She’s also strongly connected with the larger community through her passion for Métis dancing and volunteering for a variety of community events, which have all been a lifelong fixture for her and her family. “My brother and I are still involved with dancing in the community,” she says. “I have so many connections to Red Deer that it’s hard to imagine living anywhere else.”
