Volunteering at RDC is a rewarding way to support our learners, connect with alumni and supporters, and contribute to the culture of community at our College.
Volunteers act as ambassadors to new and prospective students at Open House and New Student Orientation. They contribute to the scholarship of our students by presenting at Backpacks to Briefcases and other academic events. Volunteers produce some of our fundraising events and serve on the committees that help determine how these events will take shape. These opportunities can require a commitment of just a few hours, or a two-year term. Learn more about the specific volunteer opportunities that currently exist, and fill out the form below if you'd like to be a part of our community of committed volunteers.
Serve as host at the RDC Alumni Association booth during the RDC Open House. This requires a commitment of 4 hours. Volunteers will talk to prospective RDC students about the RDC Alumni Association and the scholarships and awards program the Association contributes to, and encourage prospective students to choose RDC.
New Student Orientation
Serve as host at the RDC Alumni Association booth during the RDC New Student Orientation. This requires a full-day commitment. Volunteers will talk to new students about the RDC Alumni Association and the scholarships and awards program the Association contributes to and welcome new students to Red Deer College.
Backpacks to Briefcases
At this annual event, students are invited to attend a one-day professional development conference that includes presentations from local professionals and entrepreneurs on the subjects of how to get hired, professionalism, entrepreneurship, experiential learning, community engagement and more. Volunteers at this event can serve as event staff or participate in a presentation or panel discussion.
Connecting with other alumni at events
Athletic Alumni Receptions
At the season openers for many of our teams, the Kings and Queens have invited RDC Athletics Alumni from their sport to attend a VIP reception. Volunteers at these events will greet guests and contribute to the welcoming atmosphere of the event. Each of these opportunities requires a commitment of about 4 hours in the evening. Preference is given to alumni volunteers.
Welcome our newest grads to the RDC Alumni Association by participating in Convocation. Volunteers are needed in a number of areas to connect with new graduates. This opportunity requires a full-day commitment.
Trades Completion Breakfast
Welcome graduates from our Trades programs into the RDC Alumni Association. One Trades Completion Breakfast is held for each of our apprenticeship programs, so many volunteers are needed to connect with these learners and congratulate them on completing their in-class training. Each of these opportunities requires a half-day commitment, beginning at 7 am.
Physical Service at Events
Volunteers are always needed to plan, set up and produce our fundraising events. These events directly contribute to scholarships and awards, or raise funds for needed infrastructure projects and sustainable funding initiatives.
Sharing opportunities to support RDC financially
We are always finding creative and memorable ways to recognize our supporters. Through Paving Our Future, we were able to recognize financial contributions by placing a personalized paving stone on the Legacy Walkway outside of the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Now, we are offering contributors the chance to place an engraved plaque on a seat inside the Performance Gym or Ice Arena in recognition of their donation of $500, through Take A Seat. Volunteers who are passionate about acknowledging the support of our community and who are moved by the impact this support has on our learners can help us share information about this opportunity. This will require half-day commitments from multiple volunteers at various engagements.
