The Media Studies & Professional Communication Diploma prepares graduates for a wide range of employment in an ever-evolving media and communications landscape. The program balances liberal arts courses in media studies with workplace training in professional communication.

RDC’s two-year Media Studies & Professional Communication Diploma is the only communications credential offered in central Alberta. You will benefit from small class sizes where you can connect with your peers, and you will be led by dedicated instructors who are committed to helping you succeed.

Comprehensive Training for Your Career

In Media Studies & Professional Communication, you will study how mass media such as television, advertising, and even video games influence, and are influenced by, society. You will gain valuable knowledge to help you succeed in a variety of careers that require top-notch strategic communication skills. Courses include topics such as Critical Media Studies, Mass Communication in Canada, Public Relations, Photography, Design, Social Media, and much more.

During the second year, you will apply your knowledge through a practicum.  This hand-on, practical experience will allow you to expand on concepts from your courses, while also providing valuable connections and experience for your future.

Completing this Diploma will open doors to employment in corporate, government, and not-for-profit organizations. Potential career options include:

  • Writer/Editor

Upon graduation, you may choose to transfer to another post-secondary institution to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies or related disciplines. If you complete the Media Studies and Professional Communication diploma with a GPA average of 3.0, you will be eligible to transfer into the third year of Royal Roads University's Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication.
