Several Arts and Sciences faculty members have been working with the Central Alberta Immigrant Women’s Association (CAIWA) to help create an action plan to address domestic violence in the immigrant community. Dr. Baiju Pallicka Vareed, Dr. Reiko Yeap, Dr. Jones Kwaku Adjei, and Dr. Krista Robson have been conducting qualitative and quantitative research to better understand the causes of domestic violence as part of the CAIWA project, entitled, “The Community Conversation: Contributing Ideas for Positive Change in Immigrant Families.” On November 29, RDC hosted a community forum on the project, and participants helped brainstorm different types of collaborative programs and services that could help reduce domestic violence in immigrant communities in central Alberta.
