On April 30, Melissa Hillman, a recent graduate of the Red Deer College/University of Calgary Bachelor of Arts Collaborative program, presented her findings on poverty awareness in Central Alberta. Melissa and her supervisor, Dr. Anomi Bearden, collaborated with the Central Alberta Poverty Reduction Alliance (CAPRA) and Alberta Health Services’ (AHS) Health Promotion team to create and distribute a survey that assessed poverty awareness in the region, as well as access to supports, and the perceived impact of poverty on our community. The results of this survey will inform both the City of Red Deer's Social Planning department, as well as CAPRA's work in the community, by raising awareness and community engagement around poverty prevention and reduction.
