Arts and Sciences Advising

Planning Your Program

Thank you for choosing to take a program in the School of Arts and Sciences! Whether you have a specific program in mind or you are exploring the options, we can help you develop a plan to achieve your goals.

There are a variety of program types and lengths to choose from in our School.

Students in Bachelor’s degree programs typically take one to two years of study at Red Deer College and then transfer to another institution. Psychology and Sociology students taking the University of Calgary Bachelor of Arts Collaborative Degree can complete this program entirely at RDC.

Students taking Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science programs may want to pursue a specific program. Or, if you are still deciding on your path, first-year Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science courses provide students with an opportunity to explore their options. Many first-year courses are applicable to a variety of programs, and taking these courses often helps students to determine their interests and define their future goals.

For students taking diploma programs, such as Media Studies & Professional Communication or Social Work, you will complete your education entirely at RDC over two years.

Other students may choose to take courses through Open Studies, an option to reach your career goals by upgrading or by taking courses that will apply toward your preferred program.

If you would like to learn more about the types of careers you could have with a specific degree or diploma, the Career and Employment Services page lists over 50 different options for your information.
