Administration and Faculty

Dean's Office

The administrators and support staff associated with the Dean’s Office have broad responsibilities for supporting teaching and learning activities for all programs in the School of Arts and Sciences. Among the most important activities include:

  • Reviewing and renewing programs, and developing new programs, to ensure that we have excellent programs that are current, relevant, and successful in supporting students’ career and further education goals
  • Recruiting and developing outstanding faculty members who are excellent learner-centred teachers, experts in their academic and professional areas of specialization, and strong contributors to RDC and community
  • Informing and advising students and prospective students about programs, educational pathways, and solutions to various challenges
  • Allocating and coordinating our available resources to maximize the number of students and quality of learning experiences we can provide

Most students will have direct contact with the Dean’s Office for assistance from the Advising and Recruiting staff. Some students will also contact the Associate Dean for their program regarding appeals or other issues of concern.

School Council

Each School at RDC has a School Council which serves as the first level of academic governance. Proposals for new programs or courses, changes to existing curriculum, changes to graduation or admission requirements, and annual priority setting, are examples of matters considered by the School Council. On most matters, the School Council makes recommendations to the Dean or to RDC’s Academic Council. The School Council serves not only as a source of vital input for important decisions, but also a key forum for sharing information of interest across the School.

All faculty, all full-time staff, and four student representatives are the voting members of the School of Arts and Sciences Council.
