Complete A Student Loan Application
Before you begin the application process, you first want to ensure you meet Alberta Student Aid's eligibility criteria. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility, contact Alberta Student Aid at 1-855-606-2096.

Online applications are accessed by visiting www.studentaid.alberta.ca and logging in to your Student Aid Account using your SIAMS username and password. Once logged in, under Apply for Post-Secondary Funding you will select the funding application for the academic year you wish to receive funding for. You cannot apply for funding for the entirety of your multi-year program on one application. Applications are revised annually and are made available to students every summer (usually in June).
If you are unable to access the online application, visit the Applications and Forms page of Alberta Student Aid's website to print a paper version. Completed paper applications can be submitted to the Student Funding & Awards Office.
By completing Alberta Student Aid's full-time student loan application, you are automatically assessed for four types of funding:
- Provincial Loans
- Provincial Grants
- Federal Loans
- Federal Grants
Your student loan will provide you with financial aid throughout your full-time study period(s):

*Some programs have unique study dates. Please contact the Student Funding & Awards Office to obtain your exact dates if you are enrolled in one of the following programs: Unit Clerk, Medical Labroatory Assistant, Educational Assisistant (Spring practicum), Pharmacy Technician (Year 1 and Year 2 Practicum), Practical Nurse (Year 2), Health Care Management Post-Diploma Certificate, Human Resources Graduate Certificate.
**Funding for Spring term must be applied for on a separate student loan application.
The following expenses are considered in your student loan assessment:
- Educational Expenses
- Mandatory Fees
- Books & supplies
- Living Expenses (see chart below)
- Rent/mortgage & utilities
- Clothing & personal care items
By applying for a full-time student loan you will automatically be assessed for living expenses based on the chart below. If your actual living expenses exceed the amount you are being assessed for, you can appeal your loan for higher costs.
