FAQs - Applying for Awards

For the majority of entrance awards, your average is calculated using five subjects: English and your four highest academic subjects.  Only final grades will be used.  If you have not yet completed the Grade 12-level, your Grade 11-level subjects will then be utilized.  Only those subjects appearing on the transcript received by the March 31st deadline will be considered.

For the Building on Excellence Entrance Award, your five highest 5-credit classes from grade 11 or 12 will be used to determine your average.  A minimum average of 85% must be achieved in order to qualify for this award.

Entrance Students:

  • Did you complete high school outside of Alberta?
  • Did you take high school level upgrading courses at a post-secondary institution other than RDC?

If you answer yes to either of the above questions, please submit an unofficial transcript or Detailed Academic Report to the RDC Student Funding & Awards Office by the Annual Online Application deadline.  These records would be in addition to any that have been submitted to the RDC Admissions Office.  Please note that your transcript must include your first term grade 12 marks.

Current & Continuing Students:

Some of RDC's scholarships require an essay in addition to the Annual Online Application.  These scholarships are listed on the Awards with Specific Criteria section of the application.  If you would like to be considered for these awards, you must submit the required documents to the Student Funding & Awards Office by the Annual Online Application deadline.

If you are a collaborative student in the University of Alberta - Bachelor of Education or the University of Calgary - Bachelor of Arts programs, you will need to drop off a statement of grades including both your most recent Fall and Winter marks.  These grades need to be submitted to the Student Funding & Awards Office by April 30th (immediately following your Winter classes).  Should you anticipate your grades not being accessible by this deadline, you must contact the Student Funding & Awards Office prior to April 30th to discuss a late submission.

Apprentice Students:

There are a few scholarships that require applicants to submit copies of safety tickets in order to be eligible for the scholarships. These scholarships are listed on the Awards with Specific Criteria section of the application. If you would like to be considered for these awards, you must submit these documents to the Student Funding & Awards office by the Annual Online Application deadline.

Award winners are notified of their selection by mail or email between June and September.  Keep your contact information up to date with RDC to ensure you do not miss out on an award notification!

Your congratulatory letter (received between June and September) will explain how and when your scholarship will be disbursed.

Each award has its own eligibility requirements.  Contact the Student Funding & Awards Office to determine whether or not you will still be eligible for your scholarship funds.

RDC scholarships are based on attending RDC in the Fall of 2018 (or between August 2018 and June 2019 for apprenticeship students). If you decide to take a year off before attending RDC, your scholarships cannot be deferred.  In this case, you may reapply for scholarships for the following year.
