Kings Basketball

2015 - 2016 RDC Kings Basketball Team!

The RDC King’s Basketball team has a history of excellence dating back 50 years, but much of the team’s success has been in recent history.  During the 1997-1998 campaign, the Kings were ACAC champions.  Even more recently, the Kings appeared in the ACAC title match in 2012, 2013, and 2014.  They won the ACAC championship on 2 of those occasions (2013 and 2014).

In 1997, the Kings completed at the CCAA national championship and placed 7th .  15 years later in 2012, the Kings return to the national championships, this time finishing 4th.  They made 2 more appearances at the CCAA championships in 2013 and 2014.  These 3 consecutive appearances was a feat rarely accomplished by any CCAA team.  The Kings best finish was a national silver medal in 2014 in what was known as one of the best CCAA finals in history.  Red Deer’s Lloyd Strickland nearly completed the upset himself, by connecting on 4 3 point shots in the final 23 seconds of the championship game.
The Kings were 2012 and 2013 National Fair Play award winners at the CCAA tournament.
The Kings, under head coach Clayton Pottinger, are looking to continue their winning ways as the 2014-15 season approaches.  With many new faces, the Kings will be much different from team past.  Much different, but in many ways the same – like any real King, the goal is to be crowned champion.
The Kings will look to defend their 3rd straight ACAC title, and to claim the elusive National Crown.
