The Visual Arts Workshop for Teens
Make Art! Make Friends! Make a Difference!
Strengthen and expand your creative skills in this focused workshop. Broaden your conceptual thinking, art and design skills to complement hands-on training. Use materials and techniques not normally available in traditional programs. Learn the importance of art as a form of persona expression as you are mentored, motivated and inspired by professional artists. Develop your skills as an artist and grow as a person. The week will conclude with an exhibition.
Each day will include study in the following core subjects:
Drawing - Explore a variety of materials and methods that include charcoal, ink, form, line, texture and tone. The importance of observational drawing will be stressed.
Painting - Experiment with oil, acrylics and watercolour as you explore ways to express your ideas on canvas. Explore various application techniques and effects used by painters to create interest.
Sculpting - Create new, original works of art through fundamental principles of sculpture. Both realistic and abstract sculpture may be included using a variety of materials.
Ceramics -Learn the basics of hand building and wheel throwing. Included will be concepts on construction, decorating, glazing and firing.
The Multiple – evening workshops will offer a DIY approach to multiples. From cutting stencils to squeegeeing screen printed posters, students will explore personal expression through making unique multiples such as posters, zines and wearable art.
