Bloom: Watercolour Botanics

Students will create gestural sketches studied from photographs, memories and a variety of real flowers, and will be encouraged and inspired to move away from ‘literal’ or ‘exact’ representations to more expressive interpretations. The goal is to create the impression or expression of a flower, not a faithful rendering. It will be a fun class focused on free and open creative exploration of flowers using watercolours.
Using reference materials and sketches as a starting point, we will explore the delicate beauty and diversity of flowers through many traditional and modern watercolour techniques. Students will be encouraged to step back from their reference materials when actually painting each piece, developing a trust in their own perceptions and style.
We will go big, we will go small and we will laugh while we are doing it all.
Some watercolour experience is good, but not required.
