Foundations: Painting & Drawing Workshop

This studio workshop will focus on exploring the relationship between painting and drawing. These two cornerstones of visual art compliment and contrast each other as they begin to form a personal visual language. Daily drawing exercises will illuminate the fundamentals of drawing and painting with each day having a specific focus, such as: light on form, the creation of pictorial space, colour contrasts and the gathering of visual information. These ideas will then be transferred into paintings. Demonstrations will be numerous and on going. Introduction to colour theory followed by its application in painting projects. Discussions and slide presentations will be part of each day. Time will be devoted to the students pursuit of personal painting projects to help the student bring their new skills into their own art practice. Some experience with either painting or drawing is an asset.
