Drawing The Portrait: Anatomy & Pastels

Justin Ogilvie
Explore the portrait inside and out, examining its underlying anatomical structures and the surface nuances of skin tone using coloured pastel. Each class begins with an anatomical lecture on a specific facial region, followed by drawing from the live model or photographic sources. Learn the expressive use of line, value, weight and volume as well as classical techniques in shading, gesture, sighting and composition. Emphasis is placed upon proportion, observational accuracy, as well as depicting key planes and the facial features from different angles.
