Style Quick Underpainting, Glazing, Impressionist Technique

Ken Campbell
Learn a fast, systematic way of creating expressive paintings in oils. This technique is based on a simplified version of the Venetian Method of underpainting and glazing in oils from the 17th Century Renaissance, combined with Impressionist techniques from the 1800s. Using a black and white version of a 'grisaille' underpainting using gesso, glazed in transparent oil glazes and textured in semi-opaque and impasto oil strokes, the technique is particularly useful for studio studies and large works and can be adapted for use in the field.
