Contemporary Outdoor Painting

In this course, students will investigate the philosophical, political and manual act of painting outdoors. We will look at the historical and philosophical precedents and its possible role in todays’ world. Plein air painting is a sensorial immersion in space where what we see is influenced by the changing light, scents and sounds of a place. Landscape is in a perpetual flux and in this class we will embrace this mutability in our efforts to make a painting. During class, participants will be given technical instruction and individual guidance.
