Political Science
Political Science
The study of the location and uses of power in society.
Political science is primarily the analysis of politics and government and quests for human betterment. Topics range from the theoretical, such as the nature and proper scope of human freedom and the meaning of justice, to analysis of political processes, governmental institutions, public policies, and international organization. Major subfields of the discipline are: political philosophy, Canadian politics, international relations, comparative politics, provincial and municipal politics, political economy, political behaviour and psychology.
Political science allows for the exchange of knowledge across a wide variety of academic areas. Political science shares with economics the study of scarcity and resource allocation; with sociology an interest in social organization; with psychology, interest in political beliefs and attitudes; with philosophy, fundamental questions about humans; with anthropology and history, political contents of civilization. With English and other BA disciplines, political science emphasizes communication, research and analytical skills that prepare students for a broad spectrum of careers in the information age.
The political science program at RDC provides a strong foundation for a two-year university transfer to a degree program at any major university.
