| Because of our program's emphasis on the development of academic, technical, leadership and teamwork skills, our graduating students have a high success rate for being employed as teachers. Even though our program focuses on the "middle years," our graduating students are certified to teach at all grade levels. Many of our most recent graduates are employed in the public, separate and private school systems, plus many enjoy teaching success through substitute teaching or teaching overseas. |
In September 2006, an employability survey was conducted on our graduating class of 2006. With a return rate of 90%, we were pleased with the following results:
1) 91% of our students are currently employed in the teaching field.
2) 60% of these students are employed as full time teachers, 18% as part-time teachers and 12% as substitute teachers.
3) 90% are teaching in the middle years (grades 4-9) and 10% are teaching in lower elementary (grades K-3).
4) 65% are teaching in public schools, while 19% are teaching in Catholic schools and 16% are teaching in private schools, charter schools, international schools or federally funded schools (eg. First Nations Schools).
5) 73% are currently employed in central Alberta schools, while another 7% are in northern Alberta, 10% are in southern Alberta, and 10% are teaching outside of Alberta.
| We are very excited about the success of our graduates and we hope to continue this study on an ongoing basis. We hope that it will prove most valuable for our department as well as for future students in our program. |
