Queens Volleyball players named to ACAC South All-Conference Team
As the Queens Volleyball team gets set to play in the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship starting tomorrow at Lakeland College, two Queens Volleyball players have been recognized for their outstanding play this season.
Miranda Dawe and Megan Schmidt were both named to the ACAC South All-Conference Team, awards they will receive at this evening’s 2016-17 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Award Presentations. The awards are determined by voting from the opposing coaches in the ACAC. “Having two of our players recognized speaks to how far we have come as team this season. I am extremely proud of how hard both of these student-athletes have worked to get their careers to this point,” says Chris Wandler, Queens Volleyball Head Coach.
Kinesiology & Sport Studies student, Miranda Dawe, leads through her play on the court. “Despite Miranda being one of the most dominant power hitters in the Conference, she doesn’t get enough recognition for how good of a defender she is,” Wandler says.
Fourth year Bachelor of Business Administration student, Megan Schmidt brings an attention to detail and strong work ethic to both her practice and game play. “Megan’s ability to play in big moments is a critical piece of what defines her as a player and has made her such an important leader on our team,” explains Wandler.
Wandler sees this individual player recognition as another step in the team finding their collective identity. “Through a series of small lessons over the season we have been able to define and learn who we are as a team. This has led to more self-confidence and a good outcome to this point.”
As the team looks forward to the upcoming competition, Wandler is looking for further success as the team continues the process they started. “We are looking forward to working hard in the upcoming competition. Each moment we will work to identify what is required from us and we will try our best to accomplish that.”
