New Summer Camp opportunities at Red Deer College

RDC Summer Camps 2018

Youth camps in game design, cooking and more available in 2018

Red Deer College will be filled with activity again this summer as youth of all ages come from across Alberta to participate in new activities.

Summer Camps will be offered from July 3 until August 24, and there are opportunities for youth in a wide variety of areas including sport, science, visual art, film, game design, music, cooking, theatre and animation. Day camps are offered for anyone wishing to return home every night, while overnight camps allow teens the chance to spend a week living in Red Deer College residences.

RDC’s summer camps are led by exceptional instructors who are experts in their fields and offer campers the opportunity to experience first-rate labs, studios and facilities.

Many of last summer’s camps are back by popular demand, with complete details available at rdc.ab.ca/summercamps. The following new camps are being offered this year:

Drones Level 1
July 30 - August 3 | Ages 13 - 16
Jump in at the forefront of an emerging field! In our one-of-a-kind drone camp, you’ll take to the skies and become an honorary junior drone pilot. Mini Drone campers will be assembling and flying drones, and Racer Drone campers will actually be designing and building their own drone. This innovative camp is for anybody and everybody: no experience needed, great memories guaranteed.

Galaxy Warriors
July 30 - August 3 | Ages 8 - 11
Obsessed with space? Become a galaxy warrior as you explore the universe. Become captivated with space as you build your own spacecraft, invent hypothetical alien life and create your own spaced-themed pieces and characters.

Junior Chefs- Next Steps
August 13 - 17 | Ages 12 - 14
Delve deeper into the more technical aspects of cooking and baking. Learn how to sear, bake, sauté and broil food to create delicious dishes. You will have an in depth understanding of the essentials of cooking and baking.
*Pre-requisite: Junior Chefs - The Basics

Makerspace 1
August 13 - 17 | Ages 12 - 15
Find out what all the buzz is about in RDC’s state of the art Makerspace. Be young inventors as you explore and experiment with real design materials such as 3D printers, electrocoding, kit building and more. Use high-tech and low-tech maker equipment, and access materials and machinery required to complete do-it-yourself projects. You will design, create and take home a project you’ve built from scratch.

Makerspace Mini
August 7 - 10 | Ages 8 - 11
Find out what all the buzz is about in RDC’s state of the art Makerspace. Be young inventors as you explore and experiment with real design materials such as 3D printers, electrocoding, kit building and more. Use high-tech and low-tech maker equipment, and access materials and machinery required to complete do-it-yourself projects. You will design, create and take home a project you’ve built from scratch.

Mini Girls Codemakers
August 13 - 17 | Ages 8 - 11
Does codemaking baffle you? Discover amazing things you can do with a computer and creative coding. Learn the skills to become a designer, creator and inventor of interactive games and music, while exploring the many ways that computers and coding impact the world around us. Enhance your fundamental computer skills to code, build and problem-solve around activities like robotics, 3D animation, game design and much more.

Mini Drones
July 23 - 27 | Ages 10 - 12

STEM Sampler
August 13 - 17 | Ages 8 - 11
STEM campers will experience unique, hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math experiments. STEM is everywhere in the world around us: a curriculum that is STEM-based uses real-life situations for practical learning and application. Discover elements of STEM using the iPad, digital cameras and cool interactive technologies to explore different environments, both indoor and outdoor.

Ultimate STEM
July 23 - 27 | Ages 11 - 15
STEM campers will experience unique, hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math experiments. STEM is everywhere in the world around us: a curriculum that is STEM-based uses real-life situations for practical learning and application. Discover elements of STEM using the iPad, digital cameras and cool interactive technologies to explore different environments, both indoor and outdoor.

Yuck of Science
July 16 - 20 | Ages 8 - 11
Roll up your sleeves and prepare to get messy. This camp will expand and support your curiosity, investigating all things the make you say "EWW!" Identify animal poop, explore the wonderful world of mold and even make your own snot!
