School of Health Sciences Celebrates Recent MLA Program Success
As an institution, RDC is proud of all our Schools and want to share in their successes and accomplishments along the way. We’re throwing out a special congratulations to the School of Health Sciences as the Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) program has recently been granted a six year accreditation status!
Their journey began in the fall of 2012 as they applied for accreditation with the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). In order for RDC students to be eligible to write the national medical lab assistant exam, they need to be graduates from an accredited MLA program. The MLA program committee was hard at work preparing the documentation and the submission of their program assessment for the Phase 1 deadline of October 15, 2013.
In December 2013, they were notified that they successfully met the criterion to proceed to the Phase 2 site visit which occurred March 30 – April 1, 2014. After three very busy days, the CMA survey team granted the MLA program a two year accreditation status, with the opportunity to re-submit one of the criterion in order to receive a full six year status.
A re-submission occurred in October 2015. CMA reviewed the documentation and they were successful in meeting the requirement. In December 2015, they received official notification that the RDC Medical Lab Assistant program would be granted a six year accreditation status!
This great achievement was made possible by the hard work, dedication, and support of the following RDC employees: Linda Moore-Martin, Sharon Hamilton, Jennifer Cross, Melynne Crawley, Michelle McDiarmid, Yolanda Richards, Shannon Brown, Nancy McInerney, Bryan Rowsell, Kathy Regehr, Cathy Lichtenwald, and Drena Dechant. Congratulations to the MLA program committee for their incredible work on ensuring a continued program of excellence for our students and the School of Health Sciences!
