Advancement Through Opportunity
For Amy Whalen, the Human Resources Management Graduate Certificate offered at Red Deer College was exactly what she was looking for in order to advance her career.
“I looked at other institutions but the program at RDC is ideally suited for me,” says Amy. “This new certificate is what I wanted and what I needed to reach my goal.”
Amy works full-time as a program assistant but the Newfoundland native wanted to go back to school and pursue a new career. The one-year program at RDC is designed for degree holders who are seeking a career in human resources.
“I have my Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University, but I wanted to get into a different field,” she says. “Human Resources is a very challenging career and there’s always variety. I want to help people and make a difference.”
The flexibility of the program allows Amy to pursue her goal while balancing a busy schedule.
“It’s all online except four weekends a year when I go to RDC’s Donald School of Business for classes. I love the flexibility of the program and it’s a shorter period of time to complete,” she says. “As a mom working full-time, I still have to get my kids to hockey and dance, so it’s nice to be able to come home in the evenings and be with them. I don’t have to take time away from work or from my children to complete this certificate.”
The Human Resources Graduate Certificate at Red Deer College is a new credential in Alberta, and it provides Amy with the ideal opportunity to advance in a field that she is passionate about.
“I wanted to further my education and my career,” she says. “So I chose RDC.”
