The School of Creative Arts offers post secondary educational instruction in Music Theory and Performance, Theatre Performance and Production and Film Acting and Production (Motion Picture Arts program) and Visual Arts. We enrol 200 + students annually. Our programs enjoy a national reputation and we have attracted students from across Canada as well as other countries. Many of our students enjoy successful careers in their field of choice - K.D Lang (recording artist), Theresa Sokyrka (Canadian Idol runner up), Travis Milne (Rookie Blue television series), Jade Carter (House & Jag television series) and Brian Deedrick, former Artistic Director of the Edmonton Opera, are just a few of our success stories. The Arts Centre where our programs are housed is considered one of the best performance facilities in post secondary education in Canada and attracts thousand artists and audience every year.
To give our students practical experience and performance opportunities, the School of Creative Arts program develops an extensive season of concerts, film events and theatre productions. From September to May there are approximately 30 public events. Our Music program Concert Series includes Faculty recitals, Jazz concerts, and performances by the RDC Chamber Choir, Symphonic Winds concert band, Percussion Ensemble as well as a series of Student Afternoon Concerts. Our Theatre productions are known for their high production values. Our creative Theatre faculty develop four theatre productions per year. The faculty design set, costumes, lights and sound which our Theatre Production students bring to life. Our Performance Faculty are the directors and take our acting students through the rehearsal process to the live performances.
As the largest arts organization in central Alberta our season brings a diverse array of live performance to the central Alberta region. We have developed new plays and have produced edgy, rare plays that the central Alberta community would not have the opportunity to see. Our concert series includes all genres of music from classical, jazz to rock and roll.
