Shaping Our Future

The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre/Centre des Jeux du Canada Gary W. Harris will provide our College and our region with a comprehensive venue for athletic, recreational and community activities, all vital components for the health and well-being of central Albertans. 
 
This centre will help to shape the future of our College, offering new spaces to increase and enhance programming, and position RDC to continue expanding our role in driving the prosperity and vibrancy of our region.  The facility will also provide a remarkable array of resources and programs to all residents, with community access that is inclusive and multi-generational, promoting healthy lifestyle development for all ages.

The Vision - Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre/Centre des Jeux du Canada Gary W. Harris 

Create a world-class, inclusive facility that integrates education and learning with sport and training in order to provide:
  • A welcoming and dynamic learning environment
  • Enhanced programming that promotes healthy lifestyles and community connection
  • High performance and recreational athletic training and playing venues
  • Community gathering spaces for central Albertans of all ages

Teaching & Learning

  • Create critical components required to further RDC’s vision of becoming a Polytechnic University
  • Support students and programs primarily in RDC’s School of Health Sciences (including health, wellness and health promotion related programming)
  • New sport spaces will serve a critical role as classroom and lab learning spaces  for students
  • Allow for growth in enrollment in kinesiology and health and wellness programs as well as the development of enhanced practicum learning opportunities
  • Create new academic programming opportunities 
  • Facilitate research initiatives specific to health, wellness and sport

Health & Wellness

  • Community access that is inclusive and multi-generational, promoting healthy lifestyle development at all stages of life
  • Access to venues that meet provincial, national and international sporting standards, providing improved training spaces to support local sports and creating new opportunities to host events and tournaments
  • Facilitate development programs for players, coaches and trainers
  • Greater community access to programming that promotes health, wellness and prevents injury
