2017 RDC Scholarship Breakfast
Each year, RDC Athletics hosts the Kings & Queens Scholarship Breakfast, presented by Scott Builders. The event recognizes student-athletes whose accomplishments distinguish them as leaders in the classroom, in the community and in their sport. We also bring in a well-known keynote speaker to share their success stories with our athletes and supporters. This year, Canada’s National Women’s Soccer Team Head Coach, John Herdman will join us to share his story.

As the Head Coach of the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team, John Herdman took a group once called a “struggling squad” to one that has captured the hearts and minds of Canadians.
Under his leadership, the team won the bronze medals at both the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympic Games, and also took a gold medal at the 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico―the first Pan Am gold in Canadian soccer history.
In his riveting talks, Herdman―who was a nominee for both the 2012 and 2015 FIFA Coach of the Year―stresses the importance of developing a high performance culture, learning to overcome adversity with grace, and the role of leaders to inspire trust, confidence, and success, whether it's on the field, in the workplace, or in the home.
Funds raised, in partnership with RDC’s sponsors and community contributors, are directed to the Athletic Leadership Fund to support student scholarships such as the Scott Builders Student-Athlete Leadership Scholarships presented at the Scholarship Breakfast.
Since its inception, the Kings & Queens Scholarship Breakfast has raised more than $280,000 for student- athlete awards, helping student-athletes to pursue both their education and their passion for playing collegiate sports.
Red Deer College has an impressive athletics tradition featuring 19 National Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) titles, more than 145 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) team titles and 30 ACAC individual titles. RDC student-athletes and coaches have received countless individual honours both for academic and sporting achievement.
