Biography

Jim Brinkhurst is a senior executive with three decades of experience in the Canadian post-secondary sector. He served as the Vice President of Corporate Services at Assiniboine Community College (ACC) for 15 years and was appointed as Interim President prior to his final year. Jim was part of the phenomenal growth of ACC with the college doubling in size during his time there. 

Jim first joined Red Deer Polytechnic (formerly Red Deer College) in 2011, as the Vice President of College Services, a division that included departments such as Financial Services; Information Technology; Campus Management; and Marketing, Communications and Student Recruitment. In July of 2021, Jim became Red Deer Polytechnic’s VP Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer, before he was promptly asked to step in as interim president from the Fall of 2021 to the Summer of 2022. As the VP Finance and Administration and CFO, Jim oversees a significant portfolio that includes Financial Services, ITS, Risk, Privacy and Legal Services, Campus Management, Ancillary Services, and the Operation of RDP’s childcare program. This is in addition to his Executive leadership in preparing and managing the institution’s overall operating and capital budgets. He also plays an integral role in overseeing major campus infrastructure projects, working with academic leaders to determine the resources needed for priority programs, and ensuring the overall financial health of the institution. 

Jim has obtained his Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and he also holds a diploma in Business Administration from Red River College.
